Household Executives Learn about “Chocolate – Every Bodies Friend”
On November 19, 2008, the Household Executives HCE group held their monthly meeting at the home of Carolyn Wilson with Sandra Schubert as co-hostess. The business meeting was presided over by President Barbara A. Bouziden. Mrs. Wilson gave the devotions, “Lord Bring Blessings to Us” and members answered roll to, “Share your favorite chocolate dessert”.
Mrs. Terry Strickland (Mary) was welcomed back as a member. Secretary Helen Thiesing read the minutes and Treasurer Carolyn Gasaway gave the treasurer’s report. A thank-you note was read from the Bruce Keitel family for support given during Gina’s illness and also a note thanking the group for flowers during the hospitalization of member Leta Guinn.
Committee reports were presented. The Christmas luncheon will be December 17 with Betty Jo Bellah and co-hosted by Mrs. Gasaway and Mrs. Thiesing. Eleanor Ring will be attending the Leader’s Training for the January lesson on December 4.
Mrs. Guinn presented the lesson, “Chocolate – Every Bodies’ Friend”. She stated that chocolate begins with a bean – a cocoa bean. It has been mashed and eaten for centuries. The New World’s first chocolate factory opened in 1765 in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Guinn gave out booklets with wonderful chocolate recipes.
Mrs. Thiesing presented a mini-lesson, “The Benefits of Chewing Gum”. Chewing gum was named the number one snack choice by Americans in 2005. The sugarless gum can help prevent tooth decay and freshen breath, can help manage weight, increase focus, alertness and concentration, and help relieve “life’s everyday stresses”.
Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Schubert served refreshments to the following members: Mmes. Bella, Bouziden, Gasaway, Guinn, Ring, Strickland, Thiesing, Lola Heaton, Nadine Keitel, Evelyn Kramp, Wilma McCulloch, Louise Schoeling, Donna Schwerdtfeger, Joy Sherman, Marilyn Brown, Carol Anderson and Felicia Lyon.
